About This Spot
Stepping into Potters Bar on Church Street in Standish is like returning to a familiar corner where community and camaraderie quietly thrive. The space hums with an easy-going energy, a blend of comfortable gathering spots and lively nooks designed for both relaxed afternoons and spirited evenings. Whether it’s the steady murmur of conversation, the subtle clink of glasses, or the occasional cheer from the television screens, the atmosphere strikes a welcoming balance between calm and celebration.
This is a bar where everyday moments are marked with warmth — from the cheerful greetings at the door to the attentive ease of the staff who seem to know just when to join in or step back. The pace here gently adapts to the rhythm of its visitors, whether it’s a quiet Sunday lunch or a spirited sports evening, making it feel less like a place to visit and more like a space to belong.
Potters Bar thrives on shared experiences. The joy of savoring a comforting Sunday roast, the buzz of watching a big match with friends, and the comfort of a well-prepared buffet that draws compliments at gatherings all hint at a place shaped by care and attention. There’s a certain pride in how this bar serves as a backdrop for local celebrations — from leaving dos and surprise birthdays to baby showers — where room to connect and relax is just as valued as the food and drink on offer.
For those who appreciate sport, the bar effortlessly melds the thrill of live games with the quiet moments in between. The snooker table adds another layer to the social tapestry, inviting friendly competition and laughter that stretches into the evening. Even the resident cat feels like a small but cherished part of the community fabric, quietly reinforcing the sense that you’re stepping into a space that’s anything but ordinary.
At its heart, Potters Bar is less about the flash and more about the feeling — a place where familiar faces, good conversations, and shared moments create a sense of home away from home.

Brilliant sports bar, great atmosphere as usual as we were in watching the Champions League final yesterday, well organised and felt covid safe! Excellent friendly staff as well. Also really good place to go play snooker, so glad it is back open now!

I've had numerous events here & it is hands down the best place in Standish for any type of event. I had my leaving do, my mum's surprise birthday party & my baby shower here. Carol is absolutely amazing and her buffets are always so good & I always get compliments on the food from guests! All of the staff are great. Such a lovely room for any type of event.

Great place, lovely staff, good snooker! I've been coming here for a number of years now with my dad and brother to play Snooker. Their staff are always lovely and kind. Food is always delicious. They also have a 50p pool table that you can use if you are waiting for a snooker table to clear up. Atmosphere in the snooker room is cozy and lovely. The whole place is very comfortable and welcoming! Best snooker place in Wigan!
